Egypt 1999

In the august 1999, I went to Egypt, more exactly we spent about a week in Cairo and another week in Sharm'el'Sheikh*. Although these are the places the most tourists visit and we definitely saw the most important (and really interesting) sightseeings, our trip was quite different from tourism.

To be more precice, we went to work camp, where young people from different countries planted trees to the desert and also tried to achieve some cultural understanding and tolerance. The weather was really hot for us, usually more than 40 degrees per celsius scale, in Cairo we were fortunate to have air-conditioned hotel, but at the work camp we did not have much luxury.

For me it was really interesting trip both in the sense of seeing the historical places I have always dreamed to see, but also the discussions with the people whose picture about world is very different form us were interesting and educatory. Of course I'm not willing to take any side of the long-lasting conflict going on in this part of the world currently.

* Actually I'm not quite sure about the spelling. But so were they, as arabian people don't care much about vocals and this kind of elements when they write their names in latin letters. So we saw at least three different versions of this name in Egypt.
